Hi friend 👋🏼 and welcome to this week’s edition of “the dump.” I’m sure you all have the same question: will TikTok be banned in the US?
Well I have asked my network and I have to say, I was very surprise that almost half of the people I asked do think it will end with a ban… even friends who actually work for TikTok!
What do you think, will TikTok end up being banned in the US? |
OK, in the meantime, let’s focus on what’s actually happening: Bluesky is still growing at the speed of light, X is about to update its algorithm and Meta is ending its 3rd party fact-checking program. Fun.

🐌 Bluesky’s massive growth from the X exodus is slowing down
The app’s growth surged from 9+ million users to north of 20 million in November. But the app grew less than 10% MoM in December.
🧮 An X algorithm update is coming
According to Elon Musk, the tweak to the algorithm will prioritize “informational and entertaining content.” What exactly does that look like? Content that maximizes “unregretted user-seconds.”
⏱️The Best Time to Post on Instagram in 2025
Buffer analyzed more than 2 million Instagram posts sent through Buffer to pinpoint the best time, day, and post format for maximum reach.
✅ Meta is ending its third-party fact-checking program
Instead, the company will rely on a Community Notes model, similar to X, that uses community-sourced feedback to moderate content.
💬 X added Grok-powered question prompts to posts
The AI-powered suggestions appear as pre-written questions that users can click on to prompt the query to xAI’s Grok chatbot, which then analyzes the post & provides answers.
✏️ Threads is testing the ability to add a display name & a profile cover photo
The two features are not currently available to the public, but would be a major change to set the platform aside from Instagram and give users more freedom over their identity on the app.
