Hi friend 👋🏼 and welcome to this week’s edition of “the dump.”
The BIG news this week is that Instagram is about to roll out a new feature allowing users to RESET their algorithm recommendations. It should be very similar to what TikTok rolled out a few months ago and allow us to (re)discover more content and Creators.
Have a great week!
Geoff.

🆕 Instagram will soon let you reset your recommendation algorithm
By resetting your recommendations, you would be starting fresh and retraining the app’s algorithm about the content you enjoy across your Explore page, home feed, and Reels tab. The feature is geared toward users who feel like their content recommendations no longer cater to their interests.

🚫 WhatsApp will finally let you unsubscribe from business marketing spam
The company is now testing new ways for users to provide feedback to businesses about what kind of messages they would want to receive — or not receive. This involves buttons like “interested/not interested” and “stop/resume” for some specific categories of messages.

🤝 IRL social app Pie is coming to SF to make you less lonely
Pie, which launched in Chicago and is now rolling out in San Francisco, connects users with events in their area.
The app is reimagining an overdone concept by incentivizing creators to host events. “We believe there is a whole hidden economy of people who love to convene others and who are going to — as that community expands and accelerates — help end this social isolation pandemic, who just need some money and capital to be able to do their thing.”
