👀 We have entered the age of #deinfluencers
Consumers seek honesty, and brands (finally?) understand the importance of trust above all else.
DEINFLUENCING? What is that all about?
Consumers are more savvy than ever and can quickly tell when an influencer is choosing to promote a product for a quick check rather than out of genuine interest or love for the brand. The skepticism is real and users are now using the hashtag #deinfluencing to share their honest thoughts about trending or viral products on social media, so others don't suffer the same fate of impulse shopping and then being disappointed by their purchase.
🧐 Why you should care: The hashtag #deinfluencing has already gained over a billion views on TikTok. It’s still early days, but this is a good time to check who is representing your brand, and what the conversation turns out to be across social channels.

📻 Spotify is no longer just a streaming app, it’s a social network

With Spotify’s recent launch of comments on podcasts, the streamer is taking yet another step toward building a social networking experience in an app primarily known for music.
With comments, podcasters can now engage with their listeners directly within Spotify, as they can with other interactive features like Polls and Q&As.
Combined with the app’s 2023 revamp, which added a TikTok-like discovery feed, artist profiles where creators can hawk merchandise and concert tickets, as well as the ability to post to stories, Spotify’s app is shaping up to be a social network centered around all things audio, not just a music-streaming app.

🤳 Instagram is sticking to short videos
According to Adam Mosseri.
Instagram isn’t going to focus on long form video because it might “undermine” the platform’s “core identity to connect people with friends,” Instagram boss Adam Mosseri says in a video. Yes, you can technically post Instagram videos to your feed that are as long as one hour, and yes, Instagram did try to push for longer videos with IGTV before shutting the app down! But now, short form is where it’s at, Mosseri argues.

🤖 WhatsApp is developing a personalized AI avatar generator
WhatsApp appears to be working on a new generative AI feature that should allow users to make personalized avatars of themselves for use in any imagined setting.
🔑 Key points:
The AI generator will seemingly use a combination of user-supplied images, text prompts, and Meta’s AI Llama model to generate the images.
WhatsApp users will need to “take photos of yourself once” which will then be used to train Meta AI to produce images in the user’s likeness in any setting.
The feature will reportedly be optional, and will require users to manually enable it in the WhatsApp settings before it can be used.
